2008 Activities
July meeting
The Marrickville Peace Group met on 12 July in the back room at 'Cafe 279', 279 Illawarra Road. Eight people attended and there was a lively discussion on two main topics.
1. The Group is working on a submission to the public consultation process for the upcoming Defence White Paper. We hope to be able to address the public hearing in Sydney on 27 August 2008.
2. The Group is discussing the merits of becoming 'incorporated'.
The Marrickville Peace Group has sent a cheque to 'Doctors For Iraq' - the proceeds of the sale of the greeting card designed by Jo Errey.
2007 Activities
Withdraw troops from Iraq and Afghanistan
On 9 December 2007, members of the Marrickville Peace Group joined a rally at Sydney Town Hall to insist on the withdrawal of troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.See poster.
Greetings cards - Doctors for Iraq
In 2007, the Marrickville Peace Group raised several hundred dollars for the charity 'Doctors for Iraq' by selling a greeting card designed by Jo Errey, one of the group's members.
The cards were a great success, with the Marrickville Peace Group raising over $1,300.
The Marrickville Peace Group is intending to sell the cards again in 2008. Please contact us if you are interested in the greeting cards.
