- We are a group of ordinary people who live in or close to Marrickville, who share a common interest in promoting peace, as opposed to war.
- We aim to do this by fostering attitudes of tolerance and acceptance.
- We accept that conflict is probably an inevitable feature of human life — but reject the notion that such conflicts must be resolved by violent means.
- Not content with doing nothing, we participate in constructive, non-violent political and other action.
The Marrickville Peace Group first came into being in the period that led up to the invasion of Iraq.
A number of like-minded people got together at that time and helped make the demonstration on 16 February 2003 the huge event that it was.
The Marrickville Peace Group came together into its present form in 2005.
The Marrickville Peace Group is left-leaning but independent and extremely moderate. It has no formal connection or affiliation with any political party, but good relations with many.
